Ohmi Senior High School / Wind Music Department, JapanThe wind music department of Ohmi Senior High School was established in 1960. In the 1990s, the number of members once dropped to zero, at risk to a closure. It was not until 1999 when advisor Shin Higuchi took the lead along with two members that the department became active again and further expanded to as many as 80 members. The band is well known for its diverse performance styles. From an ensemble performance to a marching drill, from inclusion of traditional dance movements in the Yosakoi festival to incorporation of manga punch lines, the band’s performances have gone beyond common impressions on a wind band. The band attends over 70 performances a year that is one concert every week on average. In the exclusive concert held in March this year, the band attracted an audience of 1300, leaving no vacant seats. Ohm Senior High School is fully confident in satisfying all spectators in their performance.

The Orchestre d’Harmonie of Saint-Omer, FRANCEThe group was created in 1831 in a military context. It evolved continually, growing in number and quality and became, in 1929, the “Harmonie Municipale”. It is composed of about sixty-five members, both amateur and professional musicians, mostly coming from the local music academy. All generations are present in the group and share the same values of effort, quality and friendliness. For more than thirty years, the orchestra was conducted by Bruno Humetz, who managed to make it reach the highest levels of non-professional bands. Since 2009, it has been conducted by Philippe Le Meur who pursues the same goal. The orchestra takes an important part in the local cultural life by being present in formal ceremonies or in more festive events and by offering concerts chosen in a wide and varied repertoire.
